Ecoffins: The Natural Choice
All Natural and Biodegradable Alternatives for Green Burials and Cremation.

materials. Constructed with a sturdy “eco-ply board” base necessary for funerals, Ecoffins and caskets are available in a wide range of standard sizes up to 7 feet in length, Ecoffins can accommodate adults up to 325 pounds with smaller sizes suitable for children and infants. Pet casket are also available for your beloved family pet.

All Ecoffins and caskets are shipped fitted with cotton liners and include a waterproof shroud and bamboo headrest. The shroud may  be used in its natural state or decorated for a more personalized touch by family and friends before or during a memorial ceremony prior to wrapping the body for transport to and containment at its final resting place.

A popular choice for woodland or natural burials, Ecoffins will biodegrade naturally along with the body, leaving nothing behind but skeletal remains within six months to one year from the time of burial. Soil conditions and the depth of the grave are key factors in the decomposition rate. We recommend you contact a funeral provider if you have questions about local regulations, alternatives to chemical embalming, and the availability of natural or green burial grounds in your area or nationwide.

Ecoffins do not contain glue, nails or artificial fasteners. They are also free of formaldehyde, chemicals or other preservatives. Based on its all-natural composition, an Ecoffin may fulfill the requirements for some religious rites and is definitely a more environmentally friendly choice for use in cremation. There are NO toxins released into the environment during the cremation process. Burn reports issued by crematories show low levels of particulate matter from bamboo coffins and a carbon monoxide reading of zero. In fact, there are less harmful emissions given off from an Ecoffin than from those of the human body itself.

Our selection of natural Urns for Cremation Ashes is suitable for burial or for transportation for scattering. Made from Bamboo or Willow, every urn contains an impenetrable liner, which is also biodegradable.

Ecoffins manufactures their entire product line using only environmentally sustainable material:
Bamboo– not the species consumed by pandas– the ultimate sustainable material, grown and harvested in licensed plantations;
Pandanus– an environmentally friendly alternative to sea grass (currently under threat from coastal development, dredging and urban expansion);
Willow– cut from bushes known as crowns which remain harvestable for approximately 40 years before they need to be replanted; and
Banana– sheaves come from the trunk of the plant, which peel off naturally each year.

Manufactured in the most environmentally friendly way, our products are manufactured close to the source of the raw materials to reduce the carbon impact of their transportation. Because our products are hand-woven, the carbon emissions of our factories are minimal.

From factory to warehouse, all containers are packed “Russian Doll style,” the largest unit will have up to two smaller units nested inside it and the smallest container may hold urns and other accessories. This space saving method reduces the carbon footprint of transporting each unit. Wherever possible, we will use this packing method when shipping from our warehouse to the final destination. Please keep this in mind when placing an order, not only will you reduce your freight cost, you’ll be doing your part for the environment at the same time!
